A fledgling conglomerate is an inexperienced company made up of several unrelated businesses operating in different industries that clearly struggles with delivering promised services and fails to operate under a cohesive business model. A fledgling conglomerate often requires external assistance in the form of financial loans, business mentoring, or even favors from politically connected relatives.
Graves Brothers Home Improvement were initially contracted for a one-day roof and gutter installation but they sent a lesser-qualified crew from Oaks Roofing and Siding that was never able to complete the job. The only piece of information that might have given us a warning about what was to come was an email from the domain “oaksbrands.com”. At the time, the email domain went unnoticed, as it came in very close succession to an email from a known Graves Brothers’ employee. Later on, we would stumble upon the OaksBrands.com domain and its trove of Oaks’-related business information. It would turn out these companies, and many more, were a part of a local fledgling conglomerate operated by Kristopher Oaks.
After being ghosted for twenty-four hours regarding holes in and around our newly installed roof, along with several other issues, we decided to start looking for a customer service representative we could reach out to. While it proved impossible to find such an employee, many interesting search results came up. One such document was a PDF file titled “Oaks Family of Brands“. The document listed sixteen companies in total; seven different home improvement companies, three dumpster service companies, two golf courses, and four other random companies. Below is a chart of these companies and a short description about them.
